About Unsurveilled

Who we are

Unsurveilled is nonpartisan, constitution-focused, and evidence-driven. We are respectful of legitimate law enforcement and skeptical of concentrated surveillance power regardless of who controls it. We are transparent about our sources and our uncertainties, and we are willing to correct mistakes publicly.

The project began in Arizona’s East Valley with a simple observation: modern surveillance technology has made it cheap for government to record the movements of people suspected of nothing — and the fact that something is cheap and useful has never been the constitutional standard for whether government may do it. Our mission and principles spell out exactly where we stand, including what we are not: not anti-police, not anti-technology, and not a partisan organization.

Explicitly nonpartisan

Unsurveilled does not build its case around any current political controversy or administration, and we hold every public statement to one test:

Would the argument still make sense if the political party in power, police administration, technology vendor, and surveillance target all changed tomorrow?

When we work with other organizations, partnership is issue-based rather than partisan, and Unsurveilled remains organizationally independent.

Sourcing and correction standard

This is version 1 of our publishing standard. In short:

• Every factual claim traces to a source. Research posts carry a mandatory sources section, footnoted into the standing sources library.
• Primary sources are preferred — public records, contracts, court decisions, and official minutes over secondhand characterizations of them.
• Uncertainty is labeled. When a number is an estimate, an undercount, or a claim we could not independently verify, we say so in the text — not in a footnote.
• Fair framing is mandatory. If a surveillance system has documented benefits, we acknowledge them. The question is whether those benefits justify indiscriminate collection of innocent people’s movements.
• Corrections are public. Every research post has a correction log. When we get something wrong, we fix it, we date the fix, and we leave the record of the correction visible.

Privacy, practiced

This site sets no cookies, runs no trackers, and loads no third-party scripts. There is no analytics platform and no email-capture pop-up. You can verify that in your browser’s network inspector — which is the standard of verification we expect to be held to everywhere else.

Contact

The contact page reaches the organization directly. Messages go to our organizational mailbox, are never shared, and are deleted on request.
